The 14A-4 Court handles all misdemeanor cases for the Cities of Saline and Milan, the Townships of Bridgewater, Freedom, Lodi, Manchester, Saline, Sharon and York, as well as the Village of Manchester. The assigned judge as of the publishing of this book is Judge Cedric Simpson. The Saline court handles a lot of drunk driving cases, other traffic misdemeanors, retail fraud, possession of marijuana, underage drinking and property offenses. The most common police departments that submit cases to this court are the Michigan State Police, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department and the Saline Police Department. The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office is typically the prosecutor on most cases, but I tend to handle a lot of DUI and other driving cases with the City/Township prosecuting attorneys. | My experience handling cases in this court is very positive, because all of the prosecutors are very amenable to my clients proactive measures, and Judge Simpson is a judge who is willing to judge a client on their full resume rather than the single case before him. He regularly gives clients the opportunity to earn back the trust of the court and the community, and gives people a second chance. When a client hires me for a Saline District Court case, we discuss exactly what Judge Simpson is looking for from a client, and discuss the different prosecutors who could be on the case. The Saline court tends to set tougher bond conditions than some other courts, and my clients are already testing for drugs and alcohol before stepping foot in a courtroom. The Saline court tends to schedule sentencing further out than most courts in the County, so my clients seek immediate sentencing if possible in order to expedite the process. |
