The Michigan Legislature is delaying the enactment of the amended drunk driving statute that raises the illegal blood alcohol level from 0.08 to .10 until October 1st 2018.
In the meantime there are an increasing number of groups lobbying to lower the Michigan blood alcohol level from 0.08 to 0.05. This group includes Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MAAD), and various prosecuting attorneys and police organizations around the State of Michigan. The current law remains in effect that the 0.8 blood alcohol level is a violation of the statute, prohibiting the operation of a motor vehicle on a public road or highway.
What you need to know is that, if you are out drinking, each 8 oz beer contains approximately .02 of alcohol. Very few bars and restaurants serve such tiny beers. If you’re a man weighing over 160 pounds you can estimate that having two 16oz beers in an hour may place you over the legal limit to drive. This is the time to call a cab or get a ride from a non-drinking friend.
