A recent client of mine faced an Operating While Intoxicated charge at the Troy District Court with Judge Hartig. My client needed to drive for work, travel frequently and had never been in trouble before.
When the client contacted me, we immediately took control of the situation and got him on an in-home testing unit, which would allow him to fulfill his testing obligations while not interfering with his travel schedule. My client also began attending AA classes and doing community service immediately.
These proactive measures allowed my client to travel for work, and start the process toward recovery and resolving his case in a positive manner. I told my client that the worst part of the case is over, and we're now on the path to putting this matter behind us. After exploring all of our options, we were able to secure a reduced charge, which allowed my client to keep his driver's license, continue to travel and stay out of jail. We were also able to get fines greatly reduced and my client will not be forced into mandated treatment for alcohol, because he already took care of that prior to sentencing. My client also received a much lower probation term than I've seen the same judge give to similarly situated defendants who were not proactive like my client.
