This particular Washtenaw County court handles all misdemeanors from the City of Chelsea, the village of Dexter and the Townships of Dexter, Lima, Lyndon, Northfield, Scio, Sylvan and Webster. The only prosecutor who handles cases in this particular court is the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office, and Judge Conlin is the assigned judge out in Chelsea. The Chelsea Court is a very fair court, and like the Pittsfield cases, handles cases in a manner which echoes innocent until proven guilty, as bond conditions are set, but not an early punishment in disguise. The court is accommodating with travel requests, and re-scheduling court dates if necessary. Clients leave the Chelsea court feeling that their case was handled in a respectable manner, and always tell me how much they enjoyed Judge Conlin, and his staff. Some cases are more difficult than others when it comes to plea-bargaining, because the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office handles all of the cases at this court. This means it is even more important for my clients to be proactive from day one, because we need to show exceptional progress and results in order to receive an exceptional outcome. I tend to handle a lot of drunk driving cases, along with some domestic violence, retail fraud and possession of marijuana and alcohol. The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police make most of the arrests in this area, and a good portion of the offenses involve a car or truck. If you have CDL or a CPL that is an important thing to tell your attorney when you first speak to them about your case. | I’ve found the probation department at the 14A-3 District Court to be easy to work with, and they are willing to work with clients with special requests such as a travel and relocation requests. While they are good to work with, the client needs to show them compliance and a willingness to follow all instructions and rules. If you’ve been charged with a crime with a court date at the 14A-3 District Court in Chelsea, we will discuss the process from A to Z, and how the proactive program will put you in a strong position to create options in your case. We will want to set the case for a dual arraignment and pretrial in order to avoid missing a day of work to simply have your case rescheduled. This also allows us to buy additional time to obtain the evidence in the case, and put in additional time on the proactive program, which I will discuss in the next chapter. |
