The 14A-2 District Court in Washtenaw County handles misdemeanor cases from the City of Ypsilanti, including Eastern Michigan University as well as, Ann Arbor Township, Augusta Township, Salem Township, Superior Township and the Village of Barton Hills. The most common police department's handling cases for this particular court are the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, Ypsilanti Police Department, Michigan State Police and the Eastern Michigan Police Department. The majority of cases in this court are handled by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office and the City of Ypsilanti Prosecutor. Like other courts, the arresting agency will usually determine who the prosecutor is: Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office (State Prosecutor) vs City of Ypsilanti Police Department (City Prosecutor). The Judge who will handle the case as of the publishing of this book is Judge Kirk W. Tabbey who is a very reasonable and fair judge. The most common offenses that I handle from this particular court are drunk driving cases within the jurisdiction of the court, and underage drinking and possession of marijuana cases stemming from the Eastern Michigan University campus. | The 14A-2 District Court and Judge Tabbey have shown tremendous support for a proactive approach in the past. Depending upon who the prosecutor is on the case, it is quite possible to get substantial reductions on drunk driving offenses, and very favorable sentences. I have had clients in the past accomplish so much proactively that Judge Tabbey did not give my client any jail or probation, and my client saved their driver’s license. It is also quite possible to work out dismissals on MIP and possession of marijuana charges with the prosecutor and the judge if the client is able to accomplish the proactive goals set for their case. The 14A-2 Court is a very favorable court to handle a criminal case. |
