The county has multiple district courts, which are located all around the County. Each district court handles cases for different cities and townships, which will be discussed in greater detail later in this book, but for overview purposes, here are the locations of the district courts.
If you’re charged with a misdemeanor, your case will be handled in one of the district courts. If you’re charged with a felony, your preliminary examination proceedings (more on this later), will be held at the 14A-1 District Court in Pittsfield Township before heading to the Circuit Court. Misdemeanor cases will not go to the Circuit Court, or any of the district courts, and the judge will remain the same.
