The worst place in Michigan to get arrested for drunk driving is the 48th District Court in Oakland County.
The 48th District Court covers the Charter Townships of Bloomfield and West Bloomfield and the Cities of Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Keego Harbor, Orchard Lake Village and Sylvan Lake.
This is the worst place, because all three judges will send you to jail for a first offense Michigan DUI. The judges are Kimberly Small, Diane D'Agostini and Marc Barron. If you don't mind going to jail, it's actually a pretty nice courthouse. Here is a typical conversation with a potential client who has been arrested, and faces charges at the 48th District Court.
Client: I got busted for drunk driving
Me: What county did you get arrested for a DUI?
Client: Oakland County, I think it's a 48th District Court case.
Me: Well that's probably the worst place to get a DUI in Michigan, but we can't change the past.
Client: What do you mean?
Me: That's one if not the only court in Michigan where all of the judges will send you to jail for a DUI first offense in Michigan.
Client: Are you kidding me?
Me: No, I'm not - your case is extremely serious. We need to get every piece of evidence for your case. This includes police videos, audio recordings, records of the DataMaster, all police paperwork and any miscellaneous evidence that might help your defense.
Client: Ok, so what do we do now?
Me: Once you retain me, I will obtain all of this evidence, file my appearance with the court then sit down and review all of the evidence. From there we will decide on the next step and form a game plan.
Client: Ok that sounds good.
