Novi DUI Charges - How Can the Dispatch Logs Help My Case?

In a Novi DUI cases, the review of the the dispatch recordings and logs is invaluable when you are trying, among other things, to establish a time line or to determine whether the police officer acting on an anonymous tip or a “be on the look-out” has stopped the right vehicle. The recordings may often give you a sense of what the police are thinking. This is especially true where the police officer is discussing his or her observations with a backup officer or the dispatcher. 

Sometimes these conversations may directly contradict the officer’s stated observations in the police report. The recordings and logs may also give an insight into when the suspect was placed into custody. Audio recordings and logs are also sometimes the only proof of the alleged crime reported as it is being observed.

Obtaining the dispatch recordings and logs may sometimes present some difficulty, because they may contain private information. Most police radio traffic can be heard on police scanners and therefore the protection of privacy is a moot point; also, the information unrelated to your client can be redacted. The audio portions of the recording are usually only kept for a short time and should be requested immediately if they may be needed. The logs, however, are usually kept for years.
