As a former Oakland County prosecutor, I was assigned to the Novi District Court, and prosecuted cases in front of Judge Robert Bondy, Judge Dennis Powers and Judge Brian Mackenzie. As a prosecutor at the 52-1 District Court, I handled DUI cases, resisting arrest, drug possession, retail fraud, minor in possession, domestic violence, and a number of other serious felony cases. Now as a criminal defense attorney in Novi, I'm on the other side of the table, but take my experience as a prosecutor to advocate for my clients with the current prosecuting attorney and all three judges.
The Novi District Court is tough on crime, and the probation department has the resources to monitor you for longer periods of time, and to give you extra requirements to fulfill your sentence. The judges are all very fair, but each has their own reputations, which some of is true, but some of is completely false.
One thing I like about practicing at the Novi District Court is the staff is very friendly, the will adjourn arraignments freely, which saves everyone some time, and the judges have an open door policy, which is helpful for advocating for a client. All the judges care about your future, and making sure they don't see you back in their courtroom. Some call these judges tough, which they are, but they do have your best long-term interest in mind. They are only tough to keep you from making bad choices in the future.
If you are charged with a Michigan misdemeanor offense in Novi, South Lyon, Milford, Wolverine Lake and Walled Lake your case will be heard at the 52-1 District Court. The courthouse is located at 48150 Grand River Ave Novi, MI 48374.
If you are charged with a Michigan felony offense in Novi and the above mentioned cities, your case will begin at the 52-1 District Court for preliminary examination then proceed to the Oakland County Circuit Court for trial. For felony cases, the Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney will prosecute your case. If you're charged with a misdemeanor or drunk driving driving offense in Novi, your case can be prosecuted by either the local prosecutor or the county prosecutor. I will explain the differences when we discuss your case.
I look forward to providing you more information about your options, and discussing the Novi District Court and the judge assigned to your case. Give me a call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 248-924-9458.
