All felonies in Washtenaw County are handled at the 22nd Circuit Court, which is located at 101 East Huron Street, which is located downtown right off Main Street. It’s an older court building north of all the downtown restaurants, and for criminal matters, all juvenile cases and felony cases that have been bound over from the District Court level are handled in this building. If you’re under 16 years old, regardless of the level of the offense, your case will be in this building. This courthouse also handles domestic, civil and business cases. Do not confuse this courthouse with the newer courthouse further down the street at 301 East Huron Street, which is the 15th District Court.
The 22nd Circuit Court is the last stop for felonies, as all felonies begin at the 14A-1 Court for Arraignment, Preliminary Examination Conference and Preliminary Examination. The 22nd Circuit Court handles the Pre-Trial, Motion Hearing, Evidentiary Hearing, Final Pretrial, Trial and Sentencing. Once you’re at the 22nd Circuit Court, you’re knee deep in your case and likely preparing for trial or last minute resolution (more on this later). You will not return to the District Court level unless your case is remanded back by the Circuit Court Judge for a number of reasons, but this is not the common outcome for most felonies already at the Circuit Court level.
